Before you hurl sticks and stones let me explain. I am no Lady Gaga fan and in fact it was my first time to see a video of Lady Gaga last week because of the concert she had here in the Philippines.

One of her famous song is “Born this Way”. I tried looking at the lyrics of the song and tried dissecting it. Let us look at her song:

“Born This Way”
It doesn’t matter if you love him, or capital H-I-M
Just put your paws up ’cause you were born this way, baby
My mama told me when I was young
We are all born superstars
She rolled my hair and put my lipstick on
In the glass of her boudoir

It doesn’t really matter if you LOVE HIM. It is true. What matters is that He loves us. When we were born, our nature was to rebel and go against God. We were born this way but during the creation, the serpent tempted Eve and said, “Eve you were born a superstar, in fact you can be like God when you eat this fruit.” And the serpent continued on just like the lyrics of the song -

“There’s nothing wrong with loving who you are” She said, “‘Cause he made you perfect, babe””So hold your head up girl and you’ll go far, Listen to me when I say”

It is true that God makes no mistakes when He created the world. The problem was when sin entered and we were tempted that we are beautiful in our own way. It is when we start to focus on us and not on God that we see beauty in a different light. What Satan offers is the love for me rather than the love for God.

Thus the line of reasoning today is if it feels good, do it. It is okay, you are not hurting anyone. It is always how I feel rather than how God feels. Beautiful in our own way is actually becoming little gods who have exchanged God for a lie.

There is actually another way. In fact there is only one way.

And this verse disturbs a lot of liberal people because this verse declares there is but only one way. That absolute truth exists. So when faced with the absolute truth is revealed and preached, the relativist doesn’t like it because it goes against what they believe which really doesn’t matter because they believe that truth is relative.

You can sound religious and pious but still miss the mark. You can add good works but if your battle cry is to be yourself, you are removing the reason for your transformation which is Jesus Christ and the gospel. We all know we can never reach what is good according to God’s standard but we also know that in spite of our sin and flaws, He has loved us by sending His Son Jesus to die for us.

Don’t be a drag, just be a queen, Whether you’re broke or evergreen
You’re black, white, beige, chola descent, You’re Lebanese, you’re orient
Whether life’s disabilities Left you outcast, bullied, or teased
Rejoice and love yourself today ’cause baby you were born this way

No matter gay, straight, or bi, Lesbian, transgendered life,

No matter black, white or beige Chola or orient made,

The only way to get right with God is to acknowledge that we have sinned and that we need His grace. His grace is readily available. Yes, Lady Gaga was right- we are born this way – sinners, and Christ’s love transforms us because He loves us so much to change us to Christ-likeness.
